Although the Ely Community History Society focuses mostly on Ely, Western and Shueyville, we also sometimes collect information on other surrounding towns.
Recently I ran across a history of Swisher posted off the City of Swisher web site. The booklet was put together for the Swisher Centennial in 2003. Here is a link to the approximately 50-page .pdf for those of you that are interested.

The Naming of the St. Quentin Post
Be sure to read "The Naming of the St. Quentin Post", researched and presented by Post Historian Rob Smith this past Veterans' Day. It tells the story of two men from Ely, Joseph Dvorak and Charles Noska, who died near the city of St. Quentin, France in World War I. Smith does a wonderful job of taking us back in time and describing the conditions of the war the men experienced, as well as conditions back home. Other Ely area men who died in World War I were Joseph Filipi, Joseph F. Kriz, and Frank Moses, Jr. Read the story at St. Quentin Post website

History Presentation November 6, 2017
November 7, 2017
Thanks very much to Linda for her interesting presentation last night at the Ely Library. We could tell she put a lot of work into it. About 40 people came to hear about the history of Western and Shueyville and we were pleased with the turn out. Thanks also to the Ely Public Library for hosting this event.
