While
browsing the website for the Ely History, I came across the photograph
of the 1929 Ely Basketball Team. Norbert Vanorny has listed the names
of the players, except the first boy in the second row. I can identify
him.
He is my father, Lumir Holets, son of Anton and Anna Zahradnik
Holets. They lived on a farm in Putnam Township, section 18, along
Ivanhoe Road. Pleasant Run Creek runs through the property.
Dad attended the Joppa (Jappa) Rural school, located at the intersection of
Joppa (Jappa) and Ivanhoe roads, through the eighth grade. He then
attended the school in Ely for two years as a freshman and sophomore.
It was at that time he was on the basketball team.
